For more than four decades, The Homemade Cafe has been the corner spot on Sacramento Street where Berkeley comes for breakfast. Pancakes off the griddle, hashes crisped on the flat top, biscuits and gravy, and coffee cake baked in house.

The Homemade Cafe in Berkeley, after almost 50 years of operating every day of the week, has reduced its days of operation to Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. We will be open Friday through Monday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
When often asked over the phone or by customers coming to dine, “Are you serving breakfast now?” I always responded, “All day, every day, since 1979.” That has now changed. In our older age we’ve come to a place where, in order to stay viable, we can only afford to be open on our busiest days of the week: Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Due to many factors, including the change in dining habits caused by the economy and post-pandemic reliance on take-out and delivery services, our weekdays are now slower than they’ve ever been before — and we are not as young as we used to be.
We have always prided ourselves on making our iconic breakfast and lunch dishes available every day for our community, friends and neighbors, because breakfast is the most important meal and “Everybody Eats” at The Homemade Cafe! We love seeing your faces as much as possible, but we’ve seen them less and less on weekdays for a multitude of reasons.
We are proud and happy to stay open and to continue to serve you our iconic brunches Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at The Homemade Cafe Berkeley, located on the corner of Dwight Way and Sacramento Street since 1979.
